About the event:
Our event is usually opened by our staff performers and special guests . Helping us kickoff the features will be our friend Jeff Watkins . Following Jeff you'll get to regaled by our features and then after a/quick break . Get to strut your own creative stuff on our open mic. All we ask is that your mindful of your environment and that your work is original. Beyond that the event is free ( no cover ) just buy a drink or three and you're good to go. Paid parking on main street: free parking behind the library and Patchogue theater. Full sound system provided by Axiom Nexus and run by our chief tech and Master of Metal Dan Otero.
Join the staff and contributors of the Queens journal, Newtown Literary, as they celebrate their 5th anniversary and the publication of their landmark 10th issue. Since 2012, Newtown Literary has published the work of Queens writers and poets, several of whom will read their work. Event to be held in Socrates Sculpture Park in Long Island City. Free and open to the publicNewtown Literary will also be hosting a roving workshop and reading at Socrates on July 16, 1-3 PM.

Queens Writes Weekend is held at various locations around the borough where participants are inspired to come write for a few hours in a community setting. There are prompts and themes to inspire your writing and every Queens Writes Weekend site has a different one. It’s a once-a-year opportunity to meet new friends, reconnect with others in the writing community, or join our vibrant literary community that is waiting for you to be a part of it. Whether you’re a first-time writer or have been writing for years, this event is for you. We simply want Queens to write!
Because this is a fundraising event, there is a suggested donation of $5, which goes to printing costs for future issues of Newtown Literary Journal, as well as a kids’ writing contest, writing classes and workshops, and community readings.
